The world building was decent and I hope that it is expanded in future books, as this is not a standalone.

Grsceling lives under the command libri her Uncle Randa, King of the Middluns, and is expected to carry out his dirty work, punishing and torturing anyone who displeases him. You can’t read about past torture. He was unpleasant at times, but I continued rooting for him and I loved when he showed up in scenes.
Cashore has a talent for writing really strong female leads that have great arcs of character development throughout the story, being tested in many ways but always emerging triumphant and stronger in the end.
There was also a twist towards the end that I was not expecting! I’m left feeling like I was just slimed by an extremely misanthropic worldview and a glimpse through a window I wish I could shut tight. Overall, Bitterblue was an excellent conclusion to an otherwise ordinary trilogy.

As is the case with real abuse, of course, not all of the damage can be mitigated. I loved the characters in this story. Decide viajar con la carga que ser monstruo le causa, enloquece a los hombres y las personas ambiciosas que quieren apoderarse de ella para utilizarla como herramienta. But its decargar embracing your talents and moving out of your parents’ shadow are similar, as is the absorbing quality of Cashore’s prose.
Bitterblue is helped by more experienced characters from the previous books, but mostly, she is successful because of her dogged determination to do the right thing, and her skills at making friends.
In Fire, the politics were the story, and the plot became very dry and boring. After we left Princess Bitterblue in Graceling, I was curious to see how her future would turn out now that Leck isn’t at the helm of her life.
I’ll write the review I wish I’d read before buying this book and its sequels Fire and Bitterblue. Though Cashore gives Graceling herself and Fire and Bitterblue redemptive and at least somewhat happy endings, I’m not left feeling uplifted.
But in Bitterblue, the politics enhanced the story, and that was so much more enjoyable to me. As she does, she meets two thieves, who hold a key to the truth of Leck’s reign.
You are looking for something totally escapist. Highly recommend this read. Especially a YA fantasy book. This is the best YA fantasy I’ve ever read about the Rwandan genocide.
Fire has more detail. Bitterblue also seemed fond of Giddon, but their relationship was always only platonic. People were changing their allegiances in the middle of the book, discovered to be an enemy but then ended up being an ally, and vice versa. This edition includes an article by and an interview with the author.

These aren’t bad books as far as the craft of storytelling goes, but I personally did not like them — and there may be likeminded readers who would benefit from my remarks.
